Avery Ouellette

LAC

Licensed Associate Counselor

Background. I grew up in Virginia, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Exercise Science from James Madison University. I later found a home in New Jersey while completing my Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Dance/Movement Therapy from Rider University.

My experience as a yoga teacher has also helped to shape my perspective as a mental health therapist, allowing me to integrate the body’s experiential knowledge with traditional counseling. My clinical experience includes working with diverse populations in inpatient, outpatient, and community settings.

Credentials and Licensing. I am currently a Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC) in the state of New Jersey and a Registered Dance/Movement Therapist (R-DMT).

Areas of passion and specialty. My current specialty is young, middle-aged, and older adults navigating life transitions, relationship issues, boundaries, elevated stress and anger, depression, anxiety, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and substance use concerns. I also have a deep passion for exploring how movement-based therapy can support children and strengthen the parent-child relationship.

Approach. Grounded in an integrative, whole-person approach, my work draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), as well as creative arts and narrative therapies. My goal is to meet you where you are in your story, offering a collaborative and flexible space that responds to your unique needs and empowers you to live as your most authentic self. Flowing between talk therapy and dance/movement therapy, I often incorporate somatic awareness, expressive movement, and body-based coping strategies to help you process emotions, build emotional regulation skills, and reconnect with your inner sense of self.
